Found out I'd been loading my dishwasher wrong for 10 years

Last Tuesday my neighbor came over to borrow a socket wrench and saw me loading plates. She pointed out I was putting all the bowls and cups facing up, which just traps food water on the bottom. She told me they should face down so the spray arm hits them direct. I felt pretty dumb but my plates have been way cleaner since then. Has anyone else had a neighbor casually fix something you'd been doing wrong forever?

Why does nobody talk about how weird grocery store lighting is

I was at the Kroger in Cleveland last night around 8pm and the lights in the produce section were this weird purple-ish tint. It made the spinach look like it was glowing and the apples looked fake. Then I walked over to the meat aisle and the lighting was completely different, like a warm yellow that made the ground beef look almost orange. I stood there for a solid 5 minutes just staring at a pack of chicken thighs trying to figure out if it was actually bad or just the lights playing tricks. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just losing it after a long week?

My neighbor in Phoenix told me to stop watering my lawn every day and I thought she was nuts

She's lived here for like 40 years and I just moved in last summer. My grass was looking brown and sad so I was hitting it with sprinklers every morning. She came over and said I was drowning the roots and to only water twice a week but deep. I argued for a solid week before trying her way. Now three months later my lawn is greener than hers. I still don't get how less water equals more grass but here we are. Has anyone else had someone give them gardening advice that went completely against what you thought was right?

Ordered a 'silent' keyboard online but it started clicking after 3 weeks

I bought this mechanical keyboard from a random site back in February because the ad said it was 'office quiet.' First week it was great, soft thuds. Then around day 18, I started hearing this sharp click on the 'A' key, then 'S' and 'D' followed by day 22. By week three, every key had a different sound, like a tiny drum kit. I took it apart and found the factory grease had dried up unevenly, some switches had none at all. Has anyone else had a quiet keyboard go loud on them after a short time?

Vent: Nobody seems to know how to close a mailbox flap quietly

I live on a street with a bunch of old metal mailboxes and for the last 3 months my neighbor keeps slamming his flap shut at 6 AM, waking up my whole house. I finally went out and showed him you just push the latch in before letting it close, no noise at all. Has anyone else had to teach a grown adult basic mailbox manners?

I was complaining to my 72 year old neighbor Carol about my dishwasher breaking down after only 4 years. She just laughed and said she's still using the same washing machine she bought in 1987. That hit different because I realized I've replaced 3 washing machines since she's had that one. Has anyone else noticed newer stuff just doesn't last like the old stuff used to?

Last Tuesday, I found a $20 bill on the sidewalk, my bus arrived exactly on time, and my coffee order was made perfectly on the first try. No joke, I waited for something bad to happen all day but it never did. Anyone else ever have a weirdly perfect day like that?

People keep confusing natural gas with propane for kitchen stoves and it drives me crazy

I was helping my aunt set up her new stove last Saturday in her cabin upstate. She kept saying it was natural gas but I saw the tank outside was clearly propane. The fittings are different the pressure is different and if you hook up a natural gas line to a propane stove you'll get a fireball. I learned this the hard way when I helped a buddy in Brooklyn hook up his grill wrong 3 years ago. Has anyone else seen electricians or plumbers mix these two up at work?

TIL about the difference between cheap and mid-range vacuum cleaners the hard way...

I bought a $45 vacuum from a big box store last spring and it died in 3 months. So then I grabbed a $150 one from a local shop and it's still going strong after 8 months. The cheap one just couldn't handle my two cats' fur... it clogged every week. The mid-range one has a better filter system and I've only emptied it twice. I kept forgetting to grab my meds before work. Tried sticky notes but they fell off. My sister told me to write on the mirror with a dry erase marker. Works perfect. Honestly, I was at a friend's place last Tuesday and they freaked out because a plate had a tiny speck on it. They said their dishwasher was broken or something. I looked it up later and found a stat from a repair forum that said 90% of dishwasher issues are just people not cleaning the filter. Last summer, my neighbor Bob came over while I was mowing and said I was doing it all wrong. He said going back and forth in straight lines creates 'negative energy lines' and I should mow in a spiral pattern instead. I laughed it off at first, but then I actually tried it the next weekend. Turns out mowing in a spiral takes way less time because you don't have to do those awkward turns at the end of each row. Now I do it every Saturday morning and my yard looks better too. I saw this fancy OXO Good Grips peeler on sale for $40 at a kitchen store in Austin and thought it would be a game changer for meal prep. Picked the old one from a garage sale for 20 bucks after the guy said it just needed a cleaning. Spent 3 hours taking it apart and descaling it with vinegar and it works perfect now. That bus driver who never lets anyone sit in the back seat

Okay so there's this driver on the 42 route in my town who literally blocks the back row of seats every single time. Three weeks ago I got on and he had his bag spread across all four seats back there. Last Friday same thing happened around 5:30 pm when I was coming home from work. I asked him if I could move his stuff and he just said "no those seats are broken" but I saw someone sitting there the day before. Yesterday I noticed he lets some people sit back there but not others, like he picks and chooses. It's weird because the bus gets packed at rush hour and those four empty seats would help a ton. Has anyone else had a driver who does this selective seating thing on their route?

My bike chain snapped about 3 miles from home last Tuesday

I was cycling home from work through Riverside Park when my chain just let go with this loud ping sound. No warning at all, just sudden silence and a dead pedal. I had to walk my bike to a bench and pull out my multitool, but I didn't have a chain tool on me. A random jogger actually stopped and lent me his mini chain tool after I asked around for 10 minutes. Got it fixed in 15 minutes and made it home before dark. Has anyone else had a total stranger save them with the right tool at the right time?

That little diner off Route 9 has the worst pancakes I've ever eaten

I stopped at Hank's Diner in upstate New York last Wednesday because everyone raves about their breakfast. Got the buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup. They were basically wet dough on the inside with a burnt crust on the outside. Took three bites and pushed the plate away. People in the reviews call them 'fluffy and golden' but I think they are just used to mediocre food. Has anyone else eaten at a hyped spot and felt like you went to a completely different restaurant?
