Changed my mind about zone focusing after missing a shot at my daughter's recital

Yeah I gotta say that "soft because the kids kept moving" part really hits home for me. Zone focusing works GREAT when your subjects stay put or move in a straight line, but kids on a stage are basically chaotic blobs that shift direction every second. I tried the same thing at my niece's play last winter with my OM-1 and f8 at 10 feet, and half the frames were mushy because the dancers kept stepping back into the blur zone. You basically need f16 or even f22 to get a safety net for that kind of movement, but then you're fighting shutter speed and ISO noise. The only fix I've found is to either use a flash or bump the ISO way up so you can stop down more, or just switch to framing tighter and prefocusing on a specific spot they hit. It's a hard lesson but now I only use zone focus outdoors or in empty rooms where nobody's gonna wander around unexpectedly.

The library book sale changed how I grocery shop

Wait is this really changing your whole approach or just got a cookbook or two? I grabbed a vintage Betty Crocker once and made some weird jello thing that nobody ate. These sales are fun for maybe finding a random baking tip or a weird regional dish, but I wouldn't plan my weekly shopping around them. Unless you found a really specific guide to budgeting or meal prep from like 1998, I'm skeptical this is a game changer. Maybe it's more about the thrill of the hunt than actual grocery savings?

My driveway gravel pile caught the sunrise just right this morning

3 minutes of looking like a charcoal sketch doesn't make it art. It's still a pile of rocks you're gonna dump somewhere and forget about.

Just found out melamine edge banding has a shelf life

Heard that loud and clear. I pulled some old banding out of a damp corner once and it literally crumbled in my hands, the adhesive was totally dead. It's frustrating because you don't think about glue going bad when it's just sitting on a shelf. Most people don't even know to check the date code on the box. Makes you wonder how much of that "bargain" stock on sale is actually close to expiring.

Poked my head into an old Habitat ReStore last weekend

Hate seeing perfectly good tools end up in the trash, why do people waste so much?
