TIL about the difference between cheap and mid-range vacuum cleaners the hard way...
I bought a $45 vacuum from a big box store last spring and it died in 3 months. So then I grabbed a $150 one from a local shop and it's still going strong after 8 months. The cheap one just couldn't handle my two cats' fur... it clogged every week. The mid-range one has a better filter system and I've only emptied it twice. Has anyone else tried a pricier model and seen a real difference or was I just lucky?

Two cats is a lot of fur though. I have a short haired dog and a $60 shark I got three years ago and it works fine. Honestly I think people overthink vacuums. You probably just got a dud with the first one. Like I had a $40 hoover that lasted four years once. So I'm not totally convinced the price jump is what did it. Maybe you just had bad luck with that cheap brand.

@nora_wells58 exactly my point. People act like vacuum shopping is some life changing decision. It's a glorified dust sucker. If it picks up cat hair and doesn't die in 6 months, it did its job. Your Shark proves that. I think half the battle is just emptying the bin regularly and not letting it clog up.
