inAppreciation post: I just realized I've calibrated the governor on the same Otis unit in the First National building for 25 years straight.
But what if that rhythm makes you miss new problems, robert275? Sticking with one machine for 18 years could mean you're just used to its quirks and not seeing when it's truly worn out. Newer tech or even a fresh set of eyes might spot issues your routine has learned to ignore. That long-term rhythm might actually be a rut.

inWhy does nobody talk about the Netscape vs Internet Explorer browser wars?
You mentioned the ship icon. I read an article that called it the most recognizable logo of the early web.

inTIL my 1998 modem almost started a small fire
Honestly @patricia_king23 is right about the old power supplies, but the real scary part was the cheap surge protectors we all used. Those things would get just as hot as the hardware and were total fire starters themselves. Saved the computer just to burn down the dorm.

inShowerthought: I was sharpening my knives wrong for years because of my granddad
My old chef knife had a rough edge for three years before I noticed. You get used to the extra force needed to push through tomatoes or onions. The real test is slicing a ripe tomato with just the knife's own weight. If it doesn't glide through, your edge is dull. I started checking mine on a paper towel, seeing if it would catch and tear cleanly. That simple trick shows you exactly what the blade is doing.

inPSA: I changed my tune on dry forging for texture work
Yeah, that's the trick. Less water means less slipping, so the hammer stays put. Lets the metal do what it wants.
