Warning: The county appraisal website took me 3 weeks to navigate. Not 3 days like they said.

Wasted a whole Saturday trying to pull up my neighbor's tax records just to see if I was getting ripped off. Ended up clicking through like 14 different dropdown menus before I realized I was looking at the wrong county entirely. My wife came in and asked if I was okay because I was just staring at a spinning wheel for ten minutes straight. I mean maybe it's just me but I could've built a new house from scratch faster than getting those numbers to load.

That old timer who told me to stop using wire brushes on clay flues

Oh man, you're talking about Charlie? He told me the exact same thing back in '08 and I thought he was just being dramatic. Sure enough, I had to go back and replace a liner three years later because the scratches turned into cracks and the whole thing was shot.

I finally switched from a hand crank to an electric blower on my forge

Doesn't learning the hard way build better skills than taking the easy route?

Unpopular opinion: "change your password every 30 days" is the worst advice I ever got

Had the same damn problem at my shop. Used "Garag3!" then "Garag3!!" then "Garag3!!!" as my go-to pattern. Made me realize the old advice just trains people to make tiny variations. Way easier to just use a password manager and pick one good long phrase that never changes.

Been forging for 10 years and just discovered using a wet wooden stump instead of an anvil for dish shaping

Yeah the wet stump trick is solid. Used a soaked mesquite stump for about a year to shape some big skillets. The wood gives you control an anvil just can't match for deep dishes. Only problem is you gotta keep it wet or it'll burn up quick. Learned that the hard way with a dry oak log.
