Overheard a guy at the hardware store say he tapes his windows shut before a storm
Said it keeps the glass from flexing and cracking during high winds. Has anyone else tried this or is he full of it?

Nah, I gotta disagree with you there. If the tape is put on tight across the pane, it can actually help keep the glass from bowing as much in the first place, kinda like a brace.

Taping windows shut doesn't really help with the glass flexing. If the wind is strong enough to bow the glass in or out, the tape isn't gonna stop that force. It might actually cause more issues by trapping pressure against the frame. What it does do is keep the glass from shattering everywhere if it does break, that part is true. But claiming it stops cracking is just bad physics.
