Had a day in Portland last month where three mature oaks came down perfectly without a single branch hitting the house

Good point, but maybe the real luck was that deer stand thirty feet up wasn't occupied.

Warning: my browser bookmark for "how to fold a fitted sheet" is from 2014 and I still can't do it

My friend Dave tried for three straight years. He watched that same 2014 video like a hundred times. One night after a few beers he just grabbed the sheet and started wadding it up, calling it a "modern art sculpture" and threw it in the closet. To this day he just shoves them in a drawer and calls it good. I think the real secret is nobody actually folds them right, they just pretend they do.

Used to brush dirt off pottery with a toothbrush, now I just use a soft paintbrush after I shattered a Roman oil lamp last month

Oh man, same here. Dented a medieval bowl with a metal scraper once.

My neighbor's comment about my cracked driveway finally made me stop ignoring it

Last spring I had a downspout that was disconnected from the underground drain. Every rainstorm would dump water right next to my foundation. I kept telling myself I needed a plumber or some fancy extension thing. It sat like that for probably 8 months while I just let puddles form every time it rained. Turned out all I needed was a $3 coupling from the hardware store and about ten minutes of pushing it back into place. I felt pretty dumb standing there holding the thing in my hand wondering what I was even waiting for. Its amazing how a tiny fix can make you feel like you actually have your life together for once.

PSA: That 'self-cleaning' oven cycle can fry your control board

Honestly, I think that's the real risk here, not some one-time thermal shock event. But is it actually the solder cracking from expansion, or is it more about the lead-free stuff getting brittle after enough cycles? Has anyone actually run a test with a thermal camera to see how hot those connection points really get under load?
