My water heater went out on a Sunday night in the middle of winter and I had to shower at my neighbor's house for 4 days
The pilot light kept going out on my 12 year old unit and after 3 failed relights I gave up and called a guy who quoted me $1,400 to replace it, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with a sudden water heater death in the middle of a cold snap and what you ended up doing about it.

Four days is rough, but $1,400 stings worse.
