Hot take: I actually found out most people overreact to a 'dirty' dishwasher

Honestly, I was at a friend's place last Tuesday and they freaked out because a plate had a tiny speck on it. They said their dishwasher was broken or something. I looked it up later and found a stat from a repair forum that said 90% of dishwasher issues are just people not cleaning the filter. Ngl, I checked mine and it was full of gunk, ran it through a cycle, and it's been fine since. Has anyone else tried cleaning their filter before calling a repair guy?

...and then I had to explain to my roommate why I was scrubbing a filter that looked like it had a science experiment growing on it. Ngl, I felt like a total idiot when I realized I could have just cleaned the thing months ago instead of buying that overpriced rinse aid. Now I tell everyone who complains about their dishwasher to check the filter first, but half of them act like I'm asking them to rebuild the engine. Honestly, if 90% of problems are just dirty filters, maybe we should all admit we're just lazy and not that the machine is broken.

Tbh I set a phone reminder to clean mine every month after pulling out a chunk of something that looked alive.
