Why does nobody talk about how weird grocery store lighting is

I was at the Kroger in Cleveland last night around 8pm and the lights in the produce section were this weird purple-ish tint. It made the spinach look like it was glowing and the apples looked fake. Then I walked over to the meat aisle and the lighting was completely different, like a warm yellow that made the ground beef look almost orange. I stood there for a solid 5 minutes just staring at a pack of chicken thighs trying to figure out if it was actually bad or just the lights playing tricks. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just losing it after a long week?

The Kroger on Cedar Road has the same issue, I swear the broccoli looked like it was from another planet under those purple lights. You're not crazy for staring at chicken thighs for 5 minutes, @lucas165 that's exactly what I did with a pack of ground turkey last week. It's like they design the lighting to trick you into thinking everything is fresh, but the second you get it home under normal lights it looks totally different. The produce section especially feels like a fever dream when you're tired after work.

That whole glowing spinach thing really got me too. It's like they're trying to make the vegetables look radioactive or something, like a science experiment gone wrong. And the meat aisle is designed to make everything look fresh and pink, even if it's been sitting there for a while (which is honestly kind of sketchy if you think about it).
