Spent three days trying to get a simple drawer slide alignment right

Ugh, tell me about it! I had that exact same fight with some cheap side-mount slides last fall. The holes on the metal bracket were just a tiny bit too far back. The drawer would close, but it felt gritty and stuck out maybe a sixteenth of an inch. I must have taken that drawer in and out twenty times, checking my measurements over and over. Finally just wallowed out the screw holes with a round file until it sat flush. That millimeter might as well be a canyon.

A simple trick from my old boss in Austin made salary talks way less scary

Love the idea of an accomplishment log, but my boss would probably ask why I was keeping a diary on company time. Quantifying everything sounds great until you have to put a number on "prevented Todd from accidentally replying all to the entire company again." Some wins are just too beautiful for spreadsheets.

My apprentice asked me why we still use that old wire gauge chart in the van

Doubt it's that deep, perez.elliot.

Shoutout to the guy who told me to check the oil cooler seals on that 6.7 Powerstroke

Right, it's almost always something worse. You hit the nail on the head saying a simple fix is the exception. Every time I've seen that milkshake sludge in the oil, it's been a major repair. I had a buddy who thought it was just a cooler, but nope, cracked head. Feels like you get your hopes up for the cheap fix and then the real bill hits.

Appreciation post: a 1940s drafting manual I found at a yard sale had a tip about pencil hardness I never knew

Wow, did it say what paper weight that worked on without tearing?
