inRant: Messed up a whole kitchen cabinet run because I trusted my tape measure
Nah, I gotta disagree here. Tape measures are pretty solid tools and most issues come from user error not the tool itself. If you're building cabinets you should be checking your tape against a standard (like a known good ruler) every few jobs anyway.

inShoutout to that old-school stylist I watched in Philly last weekend
Tbh that stylist sounds like a total boss. I've seen older stylists do magic with just shears and a comb and it makes me realize how much we overcomplicate things. We grab thinning shears for every little thing when a good dry cut and some point cutting would do the same job. It's like we forgot how to actually use our fingers to check weight lines and tension. Mastering the basics is everything, those specialty tools are just shortcuts.

inHot take: I was wrong about used parts being a waste of time
Ngl the environmental angle is what really sold me on used parts. Throwing away a whole washing machine over a $40 board is insane when you think about all the metal and plastic that goes into a landfill.

inI finally read that climate report from 1990 my dad kept on the shelf
Yeah that "sitting on shelves collecting dust" part hits hard. Found an old newspaper clipping from 1988 in my uncle's stuff about the ozone hole and it basically spelled out everything we're still fighting about today.

inWalked into a retro tech meetup and the projector link was a TinyURL from 2009
oh come on, it's not like the world ended because a geocities page took ten seconds to load. people act like a broken link from 2009 is some kind of archeological discovery. i've seen way worse at actual tech events where the wifi drops out halfway through a demo. at least yours worked eventually, even if it looked like a screensaver from hell.
