Am I the only one who spent 3 hours on drum brakes before I finally started turning the adjuster the right way
For my first 2 shoe jobs I fought the springs with a screwdriver and cussed for 45 minutes each time, until an old guy at the shop in Dayton showed me the star wheel just needed a quick turn with a brake spoon. Last Tuesday I had both sides done in 20 minutes flat and my hands weren't even cut up. What little trick did someone finally show you that made a job way easier?
A buddy of mine had the same deal with his truck, spent a whole afternoon on one side and gave up twice. His neighbor came over and showed him the self adjuster lever was hanging up, so the star wheel wouldn't spin no matter which way he turned it. Once he cleaned that up and hit it with a little brake lube, the shoes slid right on. He said the whole job went from a full day to under an hour after that. Little stuff like that is what nobody tells you when you are learning.
