Unpopular opinion: the old Netflix DVD queue beat every streaming algo I have used since
Back around 2011 I had a Netflix DVD queue and a friend named Dave who lived in Columbus, and he mailed me a handwritten list of 40 movies I never would have picked myself. One title on there was a 1976 Swedish film I still think about, and the only reason I watched it was that Dave put it at spot 3 so the queue sent it automatically. Now my streaming app shows me the same 12 movies in a row and I scroll for 20 minutes instead. I miss when a real person with bad taste could mess up my week in a good way. Does anyone still keep a list from an actual friend instead of letting the app pick?
