Tried a hario switch for the first time last weekend and got something totally different

I did a 4 minute immersion brew with 18g of coffee and 300ml water at 205F, then let it drain through a v60 filter. The cup came out super clean but with no body at all, almost like tea. Has anyone else had their go-to recipe turn out way different with a new brewer?

Appreciation post: visiting IKEA for the first time in 5 years

Went to IKEA yesterday to grab a new desk for my home office and ended up spending 2 hours just looking at their cabinet hinges and drawer slides. They seriously upgraded their soft-close hardware since I last shopped there. The Blomsta hinges now have a built-in dampener that costs like $3 more than the old ones. I swapped out all my kitchen cabinets with those hinges last night and it took maybe 4 hours total. Has anyone else tried their newer hardware or found a cheaper alternative that works just as well?

Why I stopped fighting those long exposure star trail shots...

I used to think stacking star photos was cheating. Like you had to get the perfect single shot or it didn't count. Then I tried a 30 minute exposure of the Milky Way from my backyard last summer and it came out all blurry and washed out. So I gave in and used the Sequator app to stack 20 thirty-second shots from my tripod. The difference was night and day, I got this clean spiral of stars with the trees sharp underneath. It felt weird at first but now I see why everyone does it. Has anyone else had that moment where you changed your mind about a photo trick?

My cat knocked a half-empty mug of coffee off the counter this morning and it splashed across the white kitchen tile. The pattern looks exactly like a faded map of a coastline. I snapped a photo before cleaning it up and posted it to my art page. Now I'm thinking I should just leave stains like this for a while and see what shapes they make. Anybody else find their food messes looking like landscapes?

Realization at the city dump e-waste pile

I went to the county transfer station last Tuesday to drop off some old stereo gear. Walking through the e-waste section, I noticed at least 30 VCRs and DVD players stacked in a bin, most of them looked like belt-drive failures or bad laser lenses. It hit me that these are super easy fixes with a $5 belt kit or a lens cleaner, but nobody bothers anymore. Do you all ever pull stuff from the curb or dump for quick flips, or is it not worth the time?

I keep seeing people post art with way too much contrast

In the last few weeks I noticed a bunch of digital portraits where the shadows are totally crushed black and highlights are blown out white. It makes the whole piece look harsh and disconnected from reality. I get that high contrast can be a style choice, but it's like people are skipping the midtones entirely. How do you balance contrast without losing that soft depth or am I just missing the trend?
