Found out rebar needs 3 inches of cover near salt water, not 2, and that explained a lot
I was reading through the ACI 318 cover rules last night after a seawall job down in Galveston started showing rust stains way too early, and 3 inches is the minimum for salt exposure. Anybody else get burned by using the 2 inch rule from inland work on a coastal pour?
That 2 inch rule from inland work will get you every time on the coast. We bumped all our Galveston formwork spacers up to 3 inches after eating the same repair costs.
