Saw a handwritten ad for goat rentals to clear blackberry bushes, laughed at it, then met the goats
I spotted a 3x5 index card on the bulletin board at the feed store in Chehalis, Washington, that said "Goats for hire, $150 a week, they eat blackberry, ivy, and your problems." I took a photo just to show my wife how silly it was, since a crew with brush cutters had already given me a $900 quote for my back fence line. Two weeks later I called the number out of curiosity, and a guy named Dale showed up with six Nigerian dwarf goats and a solar fence charger. Those goats cleared about 80 feet of blackberry canes down to the dirt in nine days, and they fertilized the whole strip while they were at it. Now I am wondering if anyone here has tried goats on poison oak, because that is my next patch and I am not paying a landscaper again.
