PSA: lasted 11 days at the new dealership before I walked out, and I still don't know if I was soft or smart
Took a job at a Chevy dealer in Garland two weeks back. Flat rate was 0.7 for an oil change and they wanted us clocking out for lot time while we waited on parts. I got one check that came out to $310 for a 52 hour week, so Friday I grabbed my box and left. Some of you will say that's just how dealers run and I should've stuck it out, others will say I dodged a bullet. Which side are you on?
Read a thread on a tech forum last year where a guy tracked every hour for a month at a dealer like that. Came out to under 9 bucks an hour after all the clocking out and waiting around. Lot of shops pull the flat rate game but the .7 for an oil change plus unpaid lot time is a double dip. You did the smart thing, that check was never going to look better than it did week one.
