Took a trusty old Stanley plane to a job site in Philly last month

Ha! Tell me about it. I swear half my "tuning up" time is just me staring at the rust and wondering if I should have just bought a new one. But then I get it cutting right and feel like a genius for 10 whole minutes until I forget which drawer I put the feeler gauge in.

Learned the hard way to keep spare towels in the walk-in

Used to think one or two extra towels was plenty. Then a fryer basket tipped and hot oil spread across the floor during a Friday rush. Had to run to the laundry room three times while the oil kept spreading. Now I keep a stack of bar mops in a milk crate right by the back door. Never going back to the old way.

Can we talk about the difference between dead malls with anchor stores still open vs. totally empty ones?

Wait, hold up, @skyler_craig are you telling me you think a Macy's with actual shoppers doesn't count? lmao. I literally walked past people buying stuff at that Dayton one, it was real traffic not just people cutting through. The difference is night and day when you're actually there. I've been in totally dark malls where you hear your own footsteps echo, and that half-dead one felt like a normal place to me. The food court had three places open and a guy sweeping, it wasn't some ghost town vibe.

Changed my mind about those 'buy nothing' Facebook groups after reading a post about a guy who snagged a working espresso machine

You ever notice how we're all brainwashed into thinking everything has to be bought brand new? A friend of mine furnished his entire apartment from those groups and his place looks better than mine and I spent thousands. It's like people forgot that swapping and reusing stuff is how humans got by for most of history.

I used to think password managers were overkill until I saw my coworker's setup

Putting all your keys in one digital basket just sounds like a bigger target to me.
