I think the obsession with deep space objects is missing the point of backyard astronomy

Last week at our local club meet in Tucson, everyone was showing off their Andromeda shots from the same dark sky site. I get it, it's a classic target. But three years ago I started just tracking the moon's phases from my light-polluted driveway. I've got a full cycle of waxing crescents from 2022 that tells a clearer story about our own neighborhood in space than any fuzzy galaxy. The constant push for 'deeper' feels like it pushes new people away before they even learn their constellations. Has anyone else built a project around something simple like the moon or planets?

My friend told me to skip the first 12 episodes of One Piece and I finally did it

He said the Arlong Park arc was the real start, so I jumped straight to episode 31 last weekend. Honestly, it hooked me way faster than the early stuff ever did, and now I'm 50 episodes deep. Has anyone else tried starting a big show on a friend's 'skip list' and had it work out?

My basement flood in 2021 made me switch from carpet to vinyl plank

When my sump pump failed during that big rainstorm three years ago, I had to rip out all the soaked carpet and padding. I spent about $2,800 to replace it with waterproof vinyl plank from a local shop. Now, I don't even worry about spills or dampness down there, and cleaning is just a quick mop. Has anyone else in Edmonton made a switch like this after a big mess, and what did you pick?
