My drummer's one note: 'your bass sounds like a fridge' changed everything
We recorded our 4 song demo in my buddy's laundry room back in 2017, cheap mic on the kick drum and all. I was playing bass through this rusty Peavey amp, thought it sounded huge. Our drummer, Dave, listened back and just said 'your bass sounds like a fridge hum, man.' At first I laughed, but then I couldn't unhear it. So I swapped to a SansAmp DI box instead of the mic'd amp, rolled off the low end around 80hz, and started playing closer to the neck. Way clearer in the mix now. Has anyone else gotten a weird insult from bandmates that accidentally fixed your tone?
