Pro tip: I tried a new way to make fabric patterns from old photos

Last month, I was looking at some pictures from a trip to Chicago three years ago and had an idea. I took a photo of a cool brick wall, put it into a free pattern app on my phone, and turned it into a repeating print. I printed a test swatch on some cotton (it cost about $8 for the sample) and the texture came out way better than I thought. It made me wonder about using other city details, like manhole covers or window reflections, for unique fabric designs. Has anyone else tried making their own prints from personal photos and found a good method for it?

Appreciation post: A kid at the comic shop last week made my whole month

I was picking up my pull list at Four Color Heroes, and a little boy, maybe 8, was staring at a Spider-Man cover with wide eyes. His mom told him they could only get one, and he looked so torn... so I quietly bought the issue he was holding and just handed it to him. He looked up and said, 'Mister, are you a real hero?' Has a small, kind act from another fan ever just stuck with you like that?

Just read that the Liebherr LTM 11200 can lift 1,200 metric tons and I'm still trying to picture it.

Saw it in an old trade magazine at the dentist's office, and the sheer scale compared to the 80-tonners I run is wild, so has anyone here ever seen one of those monsters in person?

What's your favorite one-pot meal for when you're moving between countries every few weeks?

I've been living out of Airbnbs in Central America and the kitchens always have different pots. I found a lentil stew that only needs one pot and basic spices. But sometimes lentils are hard to find. Do you have other ideas that use common ingredients?

Sunlight showed my neighbor's paint mix was a total FAIL

I live near this guy who decided to touch up his car's paint himself. He mixed some old cans from his garage without testing. When the sun hit it, the color shifted to a bright purple hue. It was SO obvious next to the original blue. He drove around for days before noticing. I offered to help correct it, but he said it was 'artistic.' Stuff like this makes me glad I do this for a living.

Am I the only one who thinks pocket screws are fine for face frames?

I see all these cabinetmakers swear by mortise and tenon for face frames. I just don't agree. Been using pocket screws for years now. My frames are still solid and square. No cracks or shifts over time. It saves so much time in the shop. That extra time lets me sand better or pick nicer wood. Clients never notice the difference. Why make things harder when this does the job?

Rant: Four weeks for a Duramax injector is too long

Had a truck with injector problems. Ordered the part fast. Supplier promised quick delivery. Now it's been a month. The rig sits in my bay. Owner is mad every day. These delays ruin trust in our trade.
