Appreciation post: A kid at the comic shop last week made my whole month

I was picking up my pull list at Four Color Heroes, and a little boy, maybe 8, was staring at a Spider-Man cover with wide eyes. His mom told him they could only get one, and he looked so torn... so I quietly bought the issue he was holding and just handed it to him. He looked up and said, 'Mister, are you a real hero?' Has a small, kind act from another fan ever just stuck with you like that?

Maybe you just made that kid feel weird or taught him to expect free stuff.

Totally see your point. I did something like that once, bought a candy bar for a kid in line behind me. His mom gave me this look like I overstepped, and the kid just seemed confused. It made the whole moment awkward instead of nice. You really can't guess how people will take a simple gesture, can you?

Sometimes people just have a bad day, betty_park. That mom's look might have had nothing to do with you. The kid probably remembers the free candy more than the awkwardness.
