I was absolute about friction shifters being the only way to go on older bikes. Then I helped a buddy rebuild a 1988 Cannondale with 7-speed indexed downtube shifters and it shifted perfectly every time down to the last click. Anyone else stubbornly hang onto old tech longer than makes sense?

Weirdly enough it was a video of a trucker talking about fuel costs that changed my mind. He said a single head of lettuce travels about 1,500 miles on average and that number made me realize how much diesel we burn just to eat salads in winter. Now I get a box from a farm about 20 miles away and the stuff lasts way longer too. Anyone else have a random conversation or video flip their thinking on this stuff?

I used the power stretcher first like usual and ended up with a nasty wrinkle about two feet in that I had to cut out and seam. If I'd just listened and used the knee kicker to set that first line, I would have seen the problem right away. It cost me an extra hour and a bunch of wasted material. I called him after and he just laughed. Has anyone else had a stubborn habit that an old timer finally broke you of?
