Went to a writing retreat in Asheville and the prompts there were super weird

I went to one of those "experimental" workshops in Portland last year and I'll be honest, I walked in rolling my eyes. Thought it was all just trendy nonsense for people who take themselves too seriously. But one prompt was "write a silent argument between two houseplants about the best spot near the window." I almost left. Ended up writing this weird little story about a fern and a pothos fighting over sunbeams and it was the most honest thing I'd written in months. It forced me to stop being so literal and just let words come out without overthinking. I still don't love the prompts themselves but they broke something loose in my head that day.

I've been fighting with my multimeter for years over a simple thing

Oh man, you're spot on, I've chased my tail on the exact same thing before.

Hot take: I was wrong about those aftermarket DEF heaters for the cold

That "quick fix" lasting two years is the best kind of surprise.

I finally stopped wrapping my brisket halfway through the cook

Actually saw a whole article about that exact thing last week. The writer made a good point that every time you open the lid, you lose heat and smoke, which really messes with the cook. @vera_dixon89, that guy at the rib fest was onto something. My own take is a heavy rub does create a great bark, but you still need to watch the fire close. Letting the temperature swing around is what dries the meat out faster than anything. It's all about keeping a steady temp so you don't feel the need to peek.

Tried a new way to teach my group Scythe and it backfired

I always start with the end game scoring board in Portland. Explain the popularity multiplier first, then the rest makes sense.
