Tried using a hair dryer to soften old shellac... and it actually worked

Hold on, is stripping shellac really that big of a deal? I usually just wipe it down with some denatured alcohol and call it a day (never had an issue with adhesion).

Came across a stat about how much board game weight actually matters

Mike's in Dallas showed me their spreadsheet last month, lighter games under 3.0 were moving 3 to 1 over heavy ones because casual buyers just grab something off the shelf. If you want to stock deep strategy stuff you gotta put it right by the register so people actually see it.

Showerthought: I used to think those old banner ads from 1997 were totally useless... but maybe they were better than today's targeted stuff?

That "stalked by my own search history" bit is brutal but yeah, you're totally right. Changed my mind.

My brother told me to never buy a box of random stuff at an auction

Yeah, I've been burned enough times to know the deal. I always check the weight and shake the box before buying, if you hear stuff sliding around or it feels way too light, skip it. Also, look for water stains or dents on the box itself, that's usually a sign the contents are trashed. Have you ever had any luck with the heavy, sealed boxes or do you pass on those too?

Stuck between Helicoil and a new camera body for my Minolta...

Man, aren't helicoils just the ex-wife of car repairs? You think they're done with you, but then six months later they're back and you're bleeding money again. I helicoiled a transmission pan once and it held for like a whole year, then started weeping at a stoplight. Donor body sounds great unless you're me and your garage space is basically a closet with a concrete floor.
