TIL the radar altimeter on my bench test was reading off by 40 feet because of a fan
Spent most of Tuesday chasing a phantom fault on a Collins ALT-55 unit at our hangar in Spokane, and the whole time the thing was picking up a reflection off a box fan I had set up two benches over. Swapped cables, reseated the antenna, even cracked open the manual before a coworker walked by and just turned the fan off. Reads dead on now, and I have officially stopped trusting any test that has moving air anywhere near it. Anyone else get burned by something in the room messing with a bench check?
