Shoutout to the old timer at the Port of Oakland who showed me his hand signals from the 70s

That "guy you trusted" part is the real key. You can have all the tech in the world, but if you don't have that trust with the person you're working with, it's all just noise. Those old hand signals built that focus into the job.

Finally got that one stubborn laptop to boot after three hours of head-scratching

Ever try just pulling the drive and scanning it with a different computer's tools first? Sometimes those boot loops are the drive itself starting to fail, and all that partition work is just a temporary fix... I've seen a few where a full sector scan from another machine showed bad blocks the laptop's own recovery couldn't even see. Saves you the time if the hardware is just dying.

DAE think the rush to beat deadlines just causes more stress?

Isn't it crazy how much pressure they put on us to move fast? I felt the same panic to close for a credit last year and it almost made me ignore a cracked foundation report. That extra few weeks of checking things over saved me from a total money pit. Sometimes the best move is just to slow down, even when everyone is yelling to hurry up.

PSA: I keep seeing people ferment in sealed jars without burping them

Oh man, that sounds like a scary mess to clean up. My heart still jumps when I hear a lid pop. I switched to using those simple plastic lids with the little airlock bubblers, the kind that just snap on a wide mouth jar. It lets the gas out without letting any air back in, so I can just forget about it for weeks. Total peace of mind after my own kimchi incident.

Our book club spent 45 minutes arguing over the pronunciation of 'Hermione' before the meeting even started.

How about we just agree to use the audiobook version next time?
