Just dug up a demo tape from a fake 90s shoegaze band I made up in high school

Was cleaning out my parent's basement in Phoenix last weekend and found an old cassette labeled "Blind Mellotron" with like 4 songs on it. Me and my buddy recorded it in his garage back in 97 and we totally invented this whole backstory about how the band broke up after a fight over a stolen reverb pedal. It's hilarious how seriously we took it. Has anyone else stumbled across old fake band stuff they forgot about?

I used to swear by impact guns for pulling stuck injectors until I switched to a slide hammer setup last year

For like 5 years I'd just crank the torque up on my 1/2 inch impact and hope for the best on stuck injectors in old Cummins 5.9s. Then I wrecked a cylinder head on a 2001 Dodge in Baton Rouge because the injector sleeve came out with it (huge mistake). Now I use a Proto slide hammer with a threaded adapter and some Kroil oil let it soak overnight first. Has anyone else had better luck with slide hammers over impacts for this kind of job?

PSA: I dug into a fake 90s grunge band's lore on Wikipedia and found out the bassist supposedly died 3 different ways across 4 fan pages.

I was reading the fake bio for "Gravel Milk" and noticed their drummer's "studio death" in 1995 was listed as a car crash, a heroin OD, and a studio fire depending on which version you scrolled to, has anyone else caught contradictions like that in the lore?

Why does nobody talk about rooting cuttings in perlite instead of water

I used to stick all my plant cuttings in water on the windowsill and half of them would rot before growing roots. Last winter I tried putting pothos and coleus cuttings in a cup of damp perlite instead and they rooted in about 10 days with zero rot. Has anyone else switched to perlite or another medium for rooting?

Is organic reach actually dead or are we just bad at content?

Been stuck for 3 weeks trying to get Instagram reach back after the algorithm update. Some say it's gone for good, others claim they're still hitting 10k views with reels. Which side are you on - have you actually recovered reach or just given up?

Spent $40 on a vintage mall directory map and it totally changed how I explore dead malls

I picked up an old fold-out directory from the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey from 1987 on eBay last month. Cost me about $40 with shipping. When I visited that same mall last weekend, the layout was totally different but I could see exactly where the old arcade and food court used to be. It gave me a whole new way to picture what the place looked like when it was busy. Has anyone else bought old mall maps or brochures to help with your trips?

Question about insulating an old adobe wall in Nob Hill

I started insulating the back wall of my 1920s adobe house in Nob Hill last month and hit a weird moisture problem behind the drywall. It took me three extra weekends to figure out I needed a vapor barrier and proper drainage gap. Has anyone else run into hidden moisture issues when renovating old adobe here in Albuquerque?

That cheap torch from the hardware store cost me a full day of work

I thought I was being smart saving $30 on a basic propane torch from Ace instead of getting the Smith brand one my buddy recommended. After 20 minutes of trying to get it to hold a steady flame on a 6-inch pipe, the regulator started sputtering and then just died. I lost almost a full shift waiting for a replacement and had to borrow a rig from a guy two bays over. The money I saved upfront got eaten up by the lost time and the gas I wasted. Has anyone else had a cheap tool backfire like this on a tight deadline?

Stop blaming shutter shock for all your blurry photos

I see so many posts on here blaming shutter shock for soft images, especially with mirrorless cameras. But in my experience, 9 times out of 10 it's actually just bad technique or a dirty lens. I had a customer bring in a Sony A7III last month convinced the shutter was busted, and I found a smudge on the rear element that took 30 seconds to clean. Has anyone else noticed this trend, or am I just getting lucky with the bodies I work on?

My kid's sidewalk chalk melted in the sun and made something wild

Left a bucket of those fat chalk sticks on the patio last Tuesday when it hit 95 degrees here. Came back a few hours later and they'd all melted together into this swirl of colors, like a weird tie-dye puddle on the concrete. I snapped a picture because it looked like some abstract painting, all pinks and blues blending. Has anyone else had something totally random turn into a cool pattern like that?
