inRemember when fuel filters were just a spin-on job? Missed a seal and flooded the engine.
Wait, so my car's basically a phone that dies if I use cheap gas? Lol, guess I'll stop trying to fix stuff myself then.

inPeople keep calling any old glass 'depression glass' at the flea market
Wait, FORTY-FIVE DOLLARS for Avon? That's insane! That seller should be ashamed. It's one thing to not know, but that feels like they're tricking people on purpose. You're totally right, it ruins it for newbies. I always tell people to look up the real patterns online before they buy anything. The colors on the new stuff are way too bright and perfect.

inJust realized I've been over-torquing lug nuts for years because my old click wrench was out of spec.

inA customer in my shop said 'you're just swapping parts, not fixing anything' and it stuck with me...
It's a weird insult because swapping parts is fixing things. A surgeon swaps out a bad heart valve. A roofer swaps rotten wood for new. The skill is knowing exactly which part to swap and doing it right so the whole system works again. That customer just didn't see the diagnosis part, which is the real work.
