My tent pole finally snapped back together after 45 minutes of fighting with it

I was trying to set up my old Kelty tent in the backyard and one of the shock cord sections just would not line up. My neighbor came over and showed me a trick with a hair tie to hold it in place while you push. Anyone else have a weird fix for a stubborn pole?

Glad you got it, but shock cord isn't meant to snap back together.

My buddy Mark tried to fix his tent's shock cord last year. He got it all threaded back in and gave it a test pull... the whole thing shot out like a rubber band and whipped him right in the cheek. Left a red mark for two days. You're totally right, @barbarac41, it's not built to snap back like that. He ended up having to buy a whole new pole section because the cord was just done for.

Oh man, that happened to me too... tried to fix the cord on my old tent pole and it just exploded out. Little pieces of elastic everywhere and I had to pick them out of the carpet for a week. It's totally fried once it loses that tension. Learned my lesson and just replace the whole cord now.
