inWatched a new hire at my firm try to dimension a floor plan using the perimeter walls instead of the interior face.
Ugh, I read a whole article about that exact mistake.

inI'm not convinced the Orion Nebula is the best beginner target
Flagstaff is supposed to have dark sky rules, so that new development is a real bummer. The Orion Nebula is bright but it's also huge and diffuse, which makes it fight light pollution. Try the Pleiades cluster instead, it's a tighter group of stars that punches through haze better. A lot of beginners get fixated on nebulae when some star clusters are just more forgiving targets.

inMy old foreman told me to always double-check the fit-up before the final weld on a 36-inch header
Ever notice how the "close enough" mindset always ends up being the exact opposite? That quarter inch gap is basically the universe's way of charging interest on your rushed five minutes. Bet you'll never skip checking a fit-up again, right?

inI used to think using a laser level on a simple garden wall was overkill, but after seeing a 15-foot section I built last spring start to lean within a year, I'm changing my tune.
My buddy tried to build a small retaining wall for his flower bed, maybe two feet high. He eyeballed it and used a short level, said it was fine. That thing looked like a rollercoaster after one winter, stones tilting every which way. He borrowed my little Bosch laser for the rebuild, and now it's straight as an arrow two years later. It just locks in that line so you can't cheat yourself.

inHot take: those old-school guestbook scripts were a pain to install
Lol @sean_ramirez you got lucky then, that script was a nightmare for most of us. Took me a whole weekend to get it working right.
