My grandma told me to put foil on the rack for easy cleanup and now my oven looks like a crime scene
My grandma swore by lining the bottom rack with aluminum foil so grease would never touch the oven floor. I did it for 2 years with no problems, then last Tuesday I baked a pork shoulder at 350 for 5 hours. The foil caught all the drippings but it also blocked the vents, so the whole thing pooled up and baked onto the heating element. Smoke poured out, my fire alarm went off for 10 minutes, and I spent 2 hours scraping black carbon off with a paint scraper. Has anyone else had foil backfire like this, or am I just doing it wrong?
