I was planning a trip to Tokyo for next month and assumed capsule hotels would be the budget king. Checked Booking.com and found out a dorm bed in a decent hostel near Shinjuku was actually ¥3,000 a night cheaper than the cheapest capsule pod. Anyone else find this kind of pricing twist in other cities?

I drove out to the old Springfield Galleria yesterday after reading online it was basically a shell. I was fully expecting just empty halls and maybe one sad store. The main part was dead, with maybe three shops open and a lot of those temporary kiosks gone. But then I turned a corner and the whole food court was still running, lights on and everything. There were six places serving, including a Chinese spot and a pizza place with a line. The guy at the pizza counter said they renewed their lease for another two years because the rent is so low. It was so strange to see this one bright, busy spot in the middle of a quiet, echoing building. I got a slice and just sat there watching people come and go from this little island of normal. Has anyone else found a mall where just one section is hanging on like that?

I was wrong about using stucco on the whole house

I always figured stucco was the only way to go here in Albuquerque, so I planned to redo my whole 1970s ranch with it. Then I was over in the Nob Hill area last weekend and saw a house that mixed stucco with some really nice, dark-stained wood siding on the front gable. It looked so much better than just a plain stucco box. The wood added warmth and broke up the big wall, and it made the house feel more unique. I talked to the owner for a minute and he said the wood was cedar and it's held up fine for over five years with our sun. Now I'm rethinking my whole plan. I might do a similar accent on my place to give it some character. Has anyone else mixed materials like that on an exterior remodel here?
