My kitchen saw three fire drills last month thanks to my 'gourmet' experiments. Turns out, my signature dish is accidentally setting off alarms. So for me, plain isn't just a goal, it's a survival strategy. (I've learned that if it doesn't come out of a toaster, it's probably above my pay grade.) Maybe plain keeps things from going up in flames, literally in my case.
