Overheard a guy at the camera swap meet call a lens fungus 'patina'
He was trying to sell a beat-up 50mm with obvious haze, telling a buyer it added 'character' to the photos. I had to walk away before I said something. What's the wildest excuse you've heard for selling damaged gear?

Patina is a new one for me. I once tried to pass off a sticky aperture as a built-in neutral density filter. The buyer just laughed and walked away.

Yeah, you gotta be more subtle with it. I called a lens with fungus "vintage character" once and a guy almost bought it. The real move is saying the dust adds "organic diffusion" for portraits. Sticky aperture as an ND filter is a classic, though. That's the kind of hustle that gets you remembered at the camera swap meet.
