My neighbor Marie called my digital art "soulless" and it actually made me rethink my whole workflow

She's this older lady who does watercolor landscapes in her backyard, and she said my stuff looks too perfect, like a robot made it. I got defensive at first, but then I looked back at my last 20 pieces and realized she had a point. Everything was super clean with no happy accidents or messy brush strokes. Has anyone else had a random comment from someone outside digital art that totally shifted how you create?

Found out my granddad's old post hole digger is worth more than my whole truck

Was cleaning out my dad's shed last weekend and found this old post hole digger my granddad used back in the 60s. Looked beat to hell, rust everywhere, handle wrapped in electrical tape. I almost threw it in the scrap pile but decided to look it up online first out of curiosity. Turns out it's some rare model made by a company that went under in the 70s, and there's a guy on eBay asking $450 for one in worse shape. Made me wonder how many old tools I've tossed without checking first, any of you guys ever find something valuable in a junk pile?

That moment I realized I could use a tape measure to check window squareness

I was measuring windows for blinds in my new house last weekend and kept getting confused about whether the frame was square. Then my dad mentioned you can just compare the diagonal measurements, and if they match, it's square. Has anyone else found simple tricks like this that save a ton of headache when picking window treatments?

Found a trick for getting past crunchy subs in older releases

I was watching a 2005 encode of Eureka Seven and the subtitles were so bad I almost gave up. Tried VLC's subtitle sync but the timing was all over the place. Then I found out you can just download a newer .ass file from a fansub archive and it fixed everything in like 2 minutes. The old release had really good video quality so I didn't want to ditch it. Has anyone else had luck mixing old raws with modern sub tracks?

Finally got my friend to see the Dead ringer in that guy at the grocery store

I used to just say 'they look like someone' and move on but now I actually snap a pic for this subreddit. Yesterday I spotted a total Knives Out Daniel Craig at the deli counter in Kroger on Elm Street and my buddy finally admitted it after three tries. Anyone else get better at spotting lookalikes since joining here?

Saw this dude benching yesterday, built exactly like Tom Hardy in Bronson. Even had the same scowl. Anyone else notice random lookalikes at their regular spots and can't unsee it?

That bus driver who never lets anyone sit in the back seat

Okay so there's this driver on the 42 route in my town who literally blocks the back row of seats every single time. Three weeks ago I got on and he had his bag spread across all four seats back there. Last Friday same thing happened around 5:30 pm when I was coming home from work. I asked him if I could move his stuff and he just said "no those seats are broken" but I saw someone sitting there the day before. Yesterday I noticed he lets some people sit back there but not others, like he picks and chooses. It's weird because the bus gets packed at rush hour and those four empty seats would help a ton. Has anyone else had a driver who does this selective seating thing on their route?

Put $400 into a used wide-format printer and it worked for about 3 weeks

I picked up a used HP DesignJet off Facebook Marketplace for $400 back in February. The guy said it was lightly used and just needed new ink cartridges. First two weeks were great, I was printing out full-size floor plans for a big commercial job. Then the printhead started acting up and now it's completely dead. Took it to a repair shop and they told me the part alone would cost more than I paid for the whole thing. Has anyone else tried buying used drafting printers or is it better to just rent when you need one?

Debate: Does steam cleaning vintage clothes ruin them or save them?

I picked up a 1970s wool blazer at a flea market in Richmond last weekend and getting the smell out was a nightmare. One guy at the booth swore by steam cleaning, but another older lady said it shrinks everything and to just air it out for a week. So what do you all think? Steam or no steam for old fabrics found at thrift stores?

That time a client in Austin had a full-on allergic reaction to a 'clean' brand mask

I was doing a facial in my old treatment room, using a popular clay mask from a brand everyone said was super gentle. Halfway through, my client's face got bright red and puffy, like a balloon. She had to take Benadryl right there. It was the aloe vera extract, which I learned can be a major irritant for some people. Now I patch test EVERY new product, no matter how 'natural' the marketing is. Has anyone else had a client react to something that was supposed to be totally safe?
