My chimney camera cable snapped halfway through an inspection

It happened on a job in Bellingham last Tuesday, about 15 feet up a flue. The old cable had a weak spot I missed. I had to pull everything out by hand, which took an extra hour. What's a good brand for a tough replacement cable that can take a bend?

My shop in Tacoma swore by a certain brand of filler for years, but a 2018 Camry repair changed that.

We always used ProForm filler because it was cheap and sanded fast, but a job on a silver Camry showed terrible ghosting after three months. The customer came back furious, and we had to redo the whole quarter panel on our dime. What filler brands actually hold up long term without color issues?

Unpopular opinion: I tried using a glue stick for a quick repair and it actually held up

I was fixing a paperback for a friend last month and my PVA was totally dried out. I had one of those purple Elmer's glue sticks in a drawer and, out of pure laziness, I used it to reattach a few pages. I figured it would fall apart in a week, but I checked it yesterday and the bond is still solid. The pages open fine and there's no weird stiffness. I mean, I know it's not acid-free or anything you'd use for a real project, but for a quick, cheap fix on a book you just want to read, it kinda worked. I'm not saying I'd bind a whole book with it, but it got me thinking about other weird shortcuts people might take in a pinch. Has anyone else had a surprisingly okay result with something that's definitely not 'proper' bookbinding material?

I finally scored a solid DSL line in '98 and it changed my whole view of the waiting game

Back when everything was dial-up, I remember just staring at the screen for minutes while a single jpeg of a band's tour dates slowly painted itself down. The connection would drop, you'd get that angry screech, and start over. Then my dad got a business line and we got DSL in the house, and suddenly things just... loaded. No more tying up the phone, no more yelling 'Get off the internet, I'm expecting a call!'. I feel like it split people into two camps. One side says all that waiting was part of the charm, that the struggle made the web feel more earned. The other side, like me, thinks actually getting to use the thing without constant interruptions was the first real win of the online world. What's your take? Was the dial-up struggle a core memory, or was a stable connection the best thing to ever happen to your teenage self?

TIL my bus stop has a weird time skip thing

I was waiting for the bus this morning, like usual. My phone said 8:10, and I stood there for what felt like half an hour. When I looked again, it was still 8:10. The same bus arrived at what should have been 8:15. This has happened to me twice now at that exact spot. If you use that stop, keep an eye on the clock. It's like minutes just vanish there.
