Update: I spent a year trying to archive a 2002 Flash game site before I realized the Wayback Machine already had it.

I found out after I manually saved 400 broken asset files from a site called 'NeoPets Battleground' when a friend casually asked, 'Did you check the Internet Archive first?'

Honestly that's the worst kind of pain. Tbh the real lesson is to always ask your friends before you start a huge project, they save you from yourself.

Actually, the real lesson is to check the Wayback Machine first, before you even tell your friends. They might not know about it either. I've learned that the hard way after a few similar deep dives. The archive is the first stop, not the last resort.
