Just realized that ceramic fiber blanket for furnace linings is way better than the old firebrick method we used for years.

Yeah, it's a total game changer. The install time alone makes it worth switching, like @barbarac41 said, it's easy to be wrong until you try it. The blanket forms to weird shapes firebrick never could, and the heat-up is so much faster. You also lose way less heat through the lining, which saves a good chunk on fuel over a season. Once you get past the old way of thinking, there's just no going back.

My dial-up modem was screaming for six months and I had no idea why

My first DVD player was hooked up with the composite cable for years before a buddy showed me the component inputs. The picture blew my mind.

PSA: An old timer told me to always check the cannon plug before chasing a ghost signal

Used to think those old school tips were just superstition, like checking cannon plugs first for every little glitch. But after seeing a guy waste half a day on a bad ground when the plug was fine, it clicked. The real trick is using the tip as a starting point, not the whole plan. You gotta know when a quick check is enough and when you need to dig deeper.

I tried to run a 2003 Flash game archive on a modern PC and it completely bricked my browser for an hour.

Try running it in a standalone Flash player.

Just found my old AOL bill from 1997 and it's a real shocker

Man, my friend's older brother got wrecked by EverQuest. He'd leave the dial-up connected all night for his crafting macros. Their family got a phone bill for like $500 because of cross-state long distance charges. His dad made him take apart the computer and carry the tower down to the basement as punishment. He had to do chores for a year to pay it back.
