Vent: The time a customer's cat set off their new motion sensor every night for a month

Got a call back about three years ago for a system in a house in Springfield. The customer was sure the new motion detector in their living room was faulty, going off around 2 AM every single night. We checked everything, swapped the unit, the whole deal. Finally, I sat in my truck across the street one night just watching. Turns out their massive fluffy cat had a routine: jump from the couch to the top of the bookshelf, right through the sensor's path. The owner swore the cat never went up there. Ever had a pet completely mess with a system's logic?

Honestly, that's nothing. My neighbor's smart feeder was going nuts, giving out treats at all hours. They blamed the app for weeks. Tbh, it was their dog learning to sit in front of the camera on command. The little guy had figured out the treat sound and was just farming snacks all day long.

That cat was basically running a nightly security drill. Honestly, @david_singh61, that dog is a genius. My cousin's smart bulb in the hallway kept turning on at 3 AM, and they thought it was a ghost. Tbh, it was just their new kitten's favorite midnight zoomie path hitting the motion sensor on the wall. Pets are out here doing their own tech testing.
