Turns out it was just the reflection from her bright pink water bottle sitting on my cart, has anyone else had a stupid lighting issue trick them like that?

Remember when people said we'd all be using VR headsets for work by now?

I just found an article from 2016 where some tech CEO said by 2025 everyone would be in VR offices. Meanwhile I'm still squinting at my 7 year old monitor and using a $20 webcam for Zoom calls. My coworker tried using a VR headset for a meeting last year and ended up bumping into his bookshelf three times before giving up. Anyone else remember when the metaverse was supposed to replace everything?

My buddy the electrician made me question everything about 5G

I was talking to my friend Dave last Friday, he works for a local utility company in Phoenix. He said he's seen 3 different cases where new 5G towers went up right next to a neighborhood and within 2 months, half the houses had flickering lights and weird interference on their lines. I always figured that stuff was just fear-mongering from YouTube videos, but Dave has zero reason to lie to me. He showed me photos from his work tablet, actual readings from his meter showing spikes that line up with the tower activation times. Now I'm sitting here wondering how much of the anti-5G stuff is actually legit versus just noise. Has anyone else heard similar stories from actual electricians or utility workers?

Dropped $400 on a power trowel blade vs. $60 hand finishing - which worked better?

I was doing a 2,000 sq ft patio in Phoenix last month and decided to try a brand new power trowel blade set for $400 instead of my usual hand trowel finish. The powered blade gave me a way smoother surface way faster, but I messed up the edge control and had to fix a 4-foot section by hand anyway. Has anyone else found power trowels worth the money on small residential jobs, or do you stick to hand finishing for better control?

That new controller retrofit last month nearly burned a job down

We pulled an old Otis unit out of a building near downtown Cleveland back in May. The customer wanted a new MCE controller and we had it all wired up by Thursday. Friday morning came and the doors started cycling randomly, car would go to the top floor and just sit there. Took me 12 hours over the weekend to find a ground fault in the main drive cable that wasn't showing up on my meter. Come Monday, a junior guy on the crew plugged a temporary light into the controller cabinet and almost got cooked when the short finally let go. The factory wiring diagrams had the phase rotation labeled backwards from what was actually on site. Has anyone else run into MCE boards that show phantom faults after a swap like this?

Shoutout to the guy who told me to use dish soap as a friction reducer on my rigging line

Tried it on a big pine removal in Spokane, ended up with a rope so slick I nearly lost control of a limb. Learned that a little bit goes a really long way, and maybe stick to the proper stuff. What's the weirdest 'field fix' you've ever seen actually work?

Turns out my kitchen was just 5 degrees too warm, so the butter kept melting before the folds. Anyone else have a simple fix that took forever to figure out?

Visited the Computer History Museum and their 'birth of the web' display felt off

I was at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View last month. Their main 90s internet exhibit focuses on the first browser wars and big corporate stuff. What caught my eye was the tiny corner about GeoCities, with just one screenshot. Everyone talks about Netscape vs. IE, but I think the real story was people making those awful, personal sites. That's what the web felt like. Does anyone else think museums get the early web vibe wrong?

I was sure those magnetic hoof boots were just a gimmick until a client's rehab case in Lexington made me a believer.

After seeing a horse with severe laminitis move with less pain in a pair for three months, when nothing else seemed to help, I had to admit they had a real place in therapeutic care, so what's your take on using non-traditional support gear versus sticking solely to corrective shoeing?
