Remember when people said we'd all be using VR headsets for work by now?

I just found an article from 2016 where some tech CEO said by 2025 everyone would be in VR offices. Meanwhile I'm still squinting at my 7 year old monitor and using a $20 webcam for Zoom calls. My coworker tried using a VR headset for a meeting last year and ended up bumping into his bookshelf three times before giving up. Anyone else remember when the metaverse was supposed to replace everything?

Did you see that old video of the tech guy smashing his TV with a VR controller?

Wait, did he actually smash the screen with the controller or throw the controller through it? I remember seeing that clip but I swear I thought he just knocked it over or something, not straight up obliterate a whole TV. That's insane honestly, like how do you not realize you're windmilling a plastic brick around in a small room. My cousin broke his coffee table the same way playing Beat Saber, dude put a hole right through the particle board. Still though, at least my cousin's table was like 40 bucks from IKEA, that guy's TV had to be at least a thousand.

Honestly, that video is wild but it’s not even surprising when you think about how fast people jump into new tech without thinking it through. @the_karen, I see this all the time in everyday life, like when someone buys a massive 4K TV but mounts it on a flimsy wall or crams it into a tiny corner where you can’t even see the picture right. People get so caught up in the hype of something new that they forget to check if it actually fits their space or habits. Same vibe as the VR guy, he was so focused on the game he didn’t realize his whole living room was a hazard zone. It’s a bigger pattern of rushing into stuff without stopping to think about the basics first. Ngl, we all do it sometimes with gadgets or even furniture, but the key is to slow down and plan a little before you take the plunge.
