Coffee talk got me thinking about house hacking vs. waiting for the perfect starter home

Expand on that house hacking point he made, a lot of people don't realize how fast you can build equity when your tenants cover everything. Seems like in this market it's the only way to get a foot in the door without waiting forever to save that 20%.

Hit 500 mortar joints on a single wall today and it messed with my head

That bit about "how many little motions it takes to build something that doesn't look like much" really hit me. An old friend of mine was helping his dad lay a concrete patio one summer, and he decided to count every single time he pushed his trowel across the surface. By the end of a 10x10 section, he was at over 2,000 passes and said he felt like his hand was going to fall off before they even started the next slab. He told me it changed how he looks at any concrete work forever, just seeing it as thousands of tiny moves instead of one big slab. Makes you wonder if every big thing is just a bunch of tiny, boring actions stacked together, doesn't it?

Can we talk about how long it takes to fix a stuck window?

Did you try using a candle to lubricate the track after you got it unstuck? My neighbor @roseb47 swears by waxing the channels, but I found out the hard way that paraffin wax makes your kitchen smell like a sad birthday party for three days. Just something to keep in mind while you're elbow deep in window carnage.

Changed my tune on using a second pump for the spoils line

Oh man, that is so true... I had the exact same thing happen to me on a job down in Corpus Christi. We were chewing through this nasty clay mix and the main pump kept surging. My foreman threw on a little 4-inch Gorman-Rupp just for the spoils line and it was like night and day. The whole operation just smoothed right out and we finished way ahead of schedule.

That time a $25 hydrometer lied to me for 2 months

That hydrometer from Eugene - bet it was a BrewCraft brand. I've seen two of those do the same thing actually. The paper scale is just glued in with cheap adhesive that breaks down after a few months in liquid. Had a buddy lose a whole batch of mead that way. You can fix it by opening the tube and repositioning the scale with a dab of waterproof glue, just make sure you trim the paper edge so it sits flush.
