Last month I got a call for a fridge not cooling in a 1970s building. I spent an hour checking the compressor and condenser before I saw the floor was slanted. The unit was leaning back just enough to keep the door from sealing right. I leveled the feet and the temp dropped 15 degrees in twenty minutes. How many simple fixes do you guys miss because you jump straight to the big parts?

I used to spend 30 minutes per house just hand-stapling coax and cat6 in the rafters. Last month, I got the M12 stapler for a job in Portland and it cut that time down to maybe 5 minutes, tops. The lines are straighter and I'm not fighting with a hammer in a tight space anymore. What's the one tool that saved you the most time on a standard install?

Finally got the hang of fitting a wide web shoe on a flat foot

For years, I'd just hammer the heck out of a standard shoe to try and get it to sit right on a flat foot, which never really worked (and my arm was killing me). About six months ago, an older farrier at a clinic in Boise showed me his method of starting with a size 2 wide web and carefully drawing the branches in with the forge. I tried it on a draft cross last week, and the fit was perfect on the first nail. The horse walked off totally even. Has anyone else switched up their approach for flat feet, or do you still modify a regular shoe?

Serious question, has anyone else been told to always replace the whole shutter assembly?

The common fix is a full assembly swap, but I just cleaned the old pivot points with a tiny bit of Ronsonol and re-oiled them with a needle. It's been running smooth for three weeks now. I was finishing a custom corset in my home studio, and the thread gave out right as I was setting the final grommet (so much for unbreakable, right?). Has anyone found a truly reliable heavy-duty thread for structured pieces that won't let you down?

I was trying to find books on local history for a project. The online catalog kept giving me the same five popular titles. So last week I just went to the 974.1 section and spent an hour browsing. Found a handwritten index card tucked in a book from 1972 about a mill that got torn down, which led me to three other books the system never showed. The algorithm just surfaces what's been checked out a lot. The physical shelf has the weird, specific stuff that never gets clicked on.
