Serious question, has anyone else been told to always replace the whole shutter assembly?
I was fixing a Nikon FM2 in my shop last month and the second curtain was dragging. The common fix is a full assembly swap, but I just cleaned the old pivot points with a tiny bit of Ronsonol and re-oiled them with a needle. It's been running smooth for three weeks now. Sometimes a full replacement feels like giving up on a part that just needs care. Has anyone else fixed a sticky curtain without a full swap?

You're right, that full swap advice is often overkill. A careful clean and proper lube fixes most sticky curtains just fine. It saves a ton of money and keeps the original parts working.

Man, that's everywhere now. It's like we forgot how to fix things and just swap parts instead. My coffee maker had a slow drip last year, and the manual said to replace the whole valve assembly. I took it apart, cleaned some old grounds out of a tiny hole, and it's been perfect since. This throwaway mindset gets expensive and wastes perfectly good stuff. Your shutter fix proves a little skill and patience beats buying new every time.
