A guy at the scrap yard in Akron told me to keep a magnet in my toolbox, saved me from a bad part last month.

Yeah, that magnet trick saved me too, but not before I learned the hard way. I bought a "stainless steel" socket set at a flea market once, looked great in the package. First time I used it on a rusty bolt, the thing snapped in half like a cheap cracker. Now I carry a little magnet on my keychain, and I'll sit there testing random parts like I'm some kind of hardware psychic. It's a good way to look both smart and ridiculous at the same time.

Hey watch out for rebar chairs that look flimsy - just had a slab drop on me

Call me skeptical but I've been using those cheap plastic chairs for years and never had one snap on me like that. Maybe you got a bad batch or something but I think operator error plays into it more than folks want to admit. I've laid mesh on some pretty rough ground and those things hold up fine if you don't stomp around on them like a bull in a china shop.

Old breaker panel nearly took my hand off yesterday

My dad had a Pushmatic panel in his basement that threw sparks like a 4th of July sparkler.

My rice cooker gave out mid dinner and I had to get creative with a pot

The crispy bottom thing is actually called socarrat in Spanish cooking, it's not a mistake it's intentional. I've been doing pot rice for years and you can control the crust way better than any machine.

Trying to match a 100-year-old mortar color for a historic district repair

Yeah, nobody talks about how the light in the room changes the color completely too!
