The barber on Wilson Blvd who told me to skip the fade and I listened
Wandered into a small shop on Wilson Blvd near the Clarendon metro stop about 6 months ago, mostly because my usual place had a 40 minute wait and I was in a rush. The barber there, an older guy named Sal, looked at my hair for about 5 seconds and said, "You don't want a fade, you want a taper. Your hair grows out flat on top and a fade will just make it look like a helmet." I had never met this man and he was already telling me my usual haircut was wrong. I sat down anyway and let him do the taper, and honestly it was the best cut I have had in Arlington, and I did not even ask for it. He charged me $22 and told me to come back in 4 weeks, not 6, because my sides grow fast. He was right about that too. Now I am wondering if anyone else has a barber or stylist in town who just tells you the truth instead of asking what you want.
