Hot take: At our crew BBQ, everyone laughed when I said we should chat more with building managers. Then a simple convo stopped a major call-back.

My friend's kid spent twenty minutes explaining why hot dogs are technically sandwiches.

Back in 2015, I had to choose between believing the official story about a local bridge collapse or a detailed alternative report from an engineer in Portland.

Trusting the engineer every time is a bit too broad. A good engineer knows the theory, but a great mechanic has seen a thousand real world failures. I've seen engineers spec parts that look perfect on paper but can't handle road salt or vibration. You need both sides to build something that lasts.

Honestly, I just figured out my whole tarp setup was wrong for ten years

Man, that's such a common thing! It's wild how we can just stick with a way of doing something for years because it works "good enough." I see it all the time with people loading gear, using the same slow method because they never saw a faster way. That trucker's hitch is a game changer, it makes everything so tight. There's a ton of quick videos on YouTube if you just search for it.

My old boss told me to never trust a 'no power' diagnosis without checking the fuse first...

Saw a tech at a local shop swap a whole power supply on a monitor. The 50 cent fuse on the daughter board was the real problem. It's like some places have a checklist but start at step five.

Serious question, are smart thermostats really worth the trouble?

Sounds like we bought the same thermostat.
