Totally get that. I used to worry about scaring clients off too. I found a clear contract with simple milestones built enough trust to ask for 50% to start. It actually cut down on the tire kickers.

Wait, isn't the vibe and the story PART of the craft now? For a lot of people, getting a haircut is about the whole experience, not just the tool in the barber's hand. That straight razor sets a mood and shows respect for the history. As long as the haircut itself is good, the display is just a cool bit of decoration.
